Is an electric car in your future?

If you are in the market for an electric car then there is probably a good chance that you have been doing some reading recently. News regarding electric cars has been all over for the past year or so, and for good reason. New models are out, and these cars can help the country lose some of its dependency on oil while providing us with an alternative that is gentler on the environment. These latest-generation electric cars have better range and performance than ever before.

Electric cars are the greenest of the personal transportation industry. They do not emit any (or much less) carbon emissions than their conventional counterparts, but they do utilize  questionable raw materials such as the metals that go into their batteries.  There are some major advantages to owning a green car but there are also some disadvantages. It is important to know all of them before you go out and make a purchase.

Advantages of owning an electric car

The greatest advantage of an electric car is obviously the complete lack of emissions (when running on battery power—some vehicles like the Chevy Volt, only run on batter power for the first 40 or so miles of driving then go gasoline-powered). A full electric vehicle, like the all-new 2011 Nissan Leaf, or Tesla Roadster however, will not even have an exhaust system, muffler or fuel tank. They do not use any fossil fuels internally. They are fueled completely by a rechargeable battery that does not have to be charged via a gas engine. With many hybrid cars, there is a gas engine to go along with the electric component. It may not be easy to be green, but one city in America, will get a leg-up if selected as the winner of the Paint Your City Green campaign contest. It’s an $85,000 GIVEAWAY underway and your city could be the one chosen!

Deadline Fast Approaching to Enter to Paint Your City Green!

Sherri May & Co., a creative services firm headquartered in Phoenix, Ariz., is giving away a marketing campaign, aptly called “Paint Your City Green,” that includes professionally designed statement inserts, brochures, avenue banners, billboards and signage, valued at approximately $85,000.  The U.S. city chosen (with a population of 45,000 to 500,000) will be one dedicated to making a positive impact on the environment by encouraging sustainable living in their community.

Dunn Edwards Donates to Paint Your City Green

In addition, Dunn Edwards has recently committed to donate 50 gallons of their “Greener by Design” paint to the winning city. This paint, will be used to cover the interior and/or exterior of one city building.

To enter your city, just fill out the application. It’s that easy. Applications For Consideration In The Paint Your City Green – GO GREEN Contest are being accepted now, and MUST be submitted by Feb. 28, 2011.

To enter the go green contest, cities must complete an eight question entry form by Feb. 28, 2011. Finalists, will then be selected, and asked to participate in a conference call interview.  The winning city, will be named on March 15.

The Paint Your City Green winning city, will work closely with Sherri May & Co., to coordinate campaign details for maximum impact and to track results.

When Green Turns Black

Both Oregon and Washington, have a reputation, of being and promoting the “green lifestyle.” Portland, Oregon, takes pride in their mass transit program, and continually proves, that large cities, can reduce their carbon footprints. That all changed recently, and the green future, has taken a step back into the past.  It now appears, black as coal.

Cowlitz County,Washington, across the the Columbia River from, Portland,Oregon, has approved construction, of a coal export terminal. The facility, will export millions of tons, of U.S. coal to Asia, well in particular, China, yearly. Read the rest of this entry »
